Good, Great and Just Plain Bad Cleansers Cont'd

3:38 PM

It has been ages since I updated this list, so I figured it was time to add a few things. I will start with the good cleansers. My previous post on cleansers can be found here. Instead of adding these to the old post, I figured it would be best to do a new post.

Good Cleansers:
1.) Perricone MD's Glycolic Cleansing Bar: I used this product for about a month and returned it.  That would make you think it belongs on the "Bad" list but hear me out.  This bar made my skin feel really soft and look brighter. It seemed to clear up major blemishes and did not irritate my eczema. However, when I looked at my skin a little more closely, I noticed a few more blackheads on my forehead. This product does have olive oil in it but it also has 5% glycolic acid. I read numerous reviews about this clearing blemishes, and I was desperate so I tried it. This product did not make the "Bad" list because I can see where this may be good option for those with dry skin or combination dry skin. If you have oily skin, I would avoid this one. Of course it does go on the "Bad" list for price, $76 for three cleansing bars is craziness and you can no longer buy them individually.

2.) Perricone MD's Citrus Facial Wash. This did it's job. It prevented my face from getting new breakouts and was not irritating. However, it smells horrible! Normally I am don't let scent get to me, but this one did. Plus the results were good but not amazing.

1.) Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar. This has cleared up my face very quickly. It is gentle but very effective, and inexpensive. It is $14 for a huge bar that comes with a nice, sturdy case. It will last you a very long time.  However, I would not use this with the Clarisonic. I tried it twice and both times the combination severely dried out my skin.

2.) Clinique Acne Solutions Foaming Cleanser: This works just as well as the Acne Cleansing Bar and gives the same results. However, I do think the cleansing bar is more potent.

3.) Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel. If you want to brighten you skin, try this and the next product on my list. It also stopped my face from breaking out but did not clear up existing blemishes. This would be a great basic cleanser for anyone that does not have major issues with acne and only has the occasional breakout. Another bonus is that it smells amazing! Something like peaches and mangoes.

4.) Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Buffing Beads. Review from above applies. These beads are gentle enough for daily use.

1.) Murad Clarifying Cleanser. This cleanser seemed to work really well at first, but after the first two weeks, my face would not stop breaking out. I used it for another three weeks to make sure my skin was not purging, but my face never did stop breaking out. Now I have a few acne scars as a result of those blemishes. Needless to say, this went back. I have no idea what it was, but this does not agree with my skin. It also has a medicinal smell so it was not pleasant to use. On the upside, it did not cause an eczema flare up.
