ColourPop Strobing Kit First Impressions, Swatches, and FOTD

2:19 PM

I finally got my ColourPop order yesterday! I think I placed my order on the 11th, so pretty much the second the strobing kits were launched.  I knew it would be a while since ColourPop was pretty backed up and they make everything in house. So far, it was worth the wait!

Strobing is one of the latest beauty trends. It is all about highlighting your features and ditching contouring. Although I am not sure that I could ever completely ditch contouring.  There are two strobing kits: one of light/medium skin tones and another for medium dark/deep skin tones. Being the extremely fair shade I am, I naturally went with Strobing Kit I.  They come with a blush, two highlighters, and three Lippie Pencils.

  • Fanny Pack: icy white with a pearlescent finish

  • Non-Fiction: warm pink with gold and copper shimmer

  • Parasol: peachy gold

  • Fame: light warm nude (Creme Sheer)
  • Thistle: warm peach (Creme)
  • Marmalade: warm rosy pink (Creme)

Fame, Thistle, and Marmalade

So far, I have used Fanny Pack, Non-Fiction, and Thistle. I am loving all of them.  The texture of the blush and highlighters is not like anything I have experienced before. It is even more smooth and kind of foam like.  They have a nice pigment, but they are not too intense. You can be as subtle or as in your face as you want.  For instance, Fanny Pack is nowhere near as scary as it looks. Because of their texture, they blend seamlessly and appear as if they are naturally part of your skin.

The Lippie Pencils are just as nice. I don't have any shades remotely similar to them.  The first thing I want to mention is the scent. They have (or at least mine have) a really strong vanilla scent. It is not unpleasant at all. It smells like fall, or like one of Bath and Body Works's pumpkin candles. Thistle is what I wore today. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I've ended up loving it. The formula is on par with their other lippie pencils in that it applies fairly easily (I do experience some slight tugging), has great pigment, and lasts at least 3-4 hours on me before any fading happens.

For today's look, I kept it pretty simple and did not do any contouring. I used primarily all ColourPop items:
  • ColourPop Shadows in Girly, Game Face, Halo, and Smash
  • Catrice Lash Boost Lash Extension Fibers
  • Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara
  • Maybelline Brow Define and Fill Duo
  • Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer
  • Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour Concealer
  • Catrice All Matt Plus Shine Control Foundation
  • Catrice Color Correcting Mattifying Powder
  • ColourPop Strobing Kit I
    • Non-Fiction on cheeks
    • Fanny Pack on bridge of nose, above eyebrows, cupids bow, and cheek bones
    • Thistle on lips

The strobing kits are $39 and if you love highlighters, is worth checking out. I will post a more in depth review once I have thoroughly used every product.

    1. It is an amazing brand. I have heard other people from the UK say it is quite the challenge getting anything from ColourPop. But I have also seen potential hints that they might be working on shipping over there. =) I hope that is the case.
