Quick Review of Urban Decay's Meltdown Makeup Remover Cleansing Oil Sitck

7:10 AM

I'll admit that I was a bit skeptical when I first saw that Urban Decay was releasing some skincare products. Skeptical, but also very intrigued. The two that really drew me in were the Cleansing Oil Stick and Makeup Dissolving Spray. At first, it might seem like an everyday cleansing balm, but it is quite different. I wasn't going to try it, but Ulta happened to have their wonderful 20% off purchase coupon at the time, so I just bought it.

This three phase makeup remover is designed to remove the toughest, longest lasting makeup while still being gentle to your skin. Urban Decay used ingredients such as vitamin E, turmeric root extract, and sunflower seed oil to keep the skin hydrated rather than strip it. The packaging is also travel friendly and Urban Decay says "there is no risk of TSA confiscation." Plus the size is good for tossing in a bag.

I intentionally left some of the "gunk" so you can see what happens if you don't wipe it down every so often.

It has three phases: balm, liquid, and foam. It obviously applies like a balm, but as you rub it in, it becomes a liquid. Once you add a little water into the mix, it begins a very fine and lightweight foam, or "microfoam" as Urban Decay calls it. I've grown to prefer it over any other form of makeup remover as it is less messy, and it doesn't leave behind any greasy residue. It does a fantastic job at removing foundation, concealer, and even lipstick. I always (well, almost always) follow up with a cleanser, but I feel like this makeup remover does such a good job that I don't always need that extra step. In other words, it is okay to be lazy from time to time if you use this.

There is a scent, and I am trying to think of how to best describe it. When I first used this product, I wasn't a fan, but it has grown on me over time. The scent almost reminds me of apples. It isn't too strong, so I don't think the majority of people will find it off putting. And try not to get any of the foam in your mouth; it tastes awful.

The price is $26 for 1.58 oz of product. That seems pricey, but you don't need to use a lot of product. I also haven't used a makeup remover that works so well for me, so it is worth it. I haven't experienced any breakouts or skin irritation with it, either. I will admit that the packaging can start to look pretty gross, so you will want to clean off the edges where the balm comes out. Otherwise, everything will start to build up around it.

Have you tried any of Urban Decay's new skincare products?
